Communication

Here is the link to our Discord where participants can communicate with VAL and each other: https://discord.gg/22jK6PY2fq

Official VAL communication for the tournament will be sent through the Discord. Players should join the VAL Discord to receive updates and information for the competition.

Players will compete in open qualifiers on their own schedule, reporting their scores by 3/04. VAL will choose finalists and coordinate with these to determine scheduling.

The finals will have different recording and other spectating rules TBD. In general, players should expect to have their matches broadcast and casted over.

Participants MUST register through: VALVR.com

Please note that signing up through the website does not automatically enter your info into a marketing database. You can opt out of it while registering without issue or risk of not being able to participate. We do not sell or distribute your information.

After registering through valvr.com, those wishing to signup for the Real VR Fishing tournament can do so at the form here

Rules Summary

Tournament Rules

  • VAL admins will collect registrations.
  • Players must report results of their matches. Recordings are MANDATORY for this tournament. If players provide both in game names, VAL admins can work with Real VR Fishing admins to verify, however this is not guaranteed. VAL may provide a Google form link for screenshots at a later date in the VAL Discord.
  • If connection or other problems on behalf of a player causes crashes, players who are having connectivity problems will have up to 90 minutes to reschedule their matches.  Players who cannot fix connectivity or other tech issues will most likely be disqualified by VAL admins. For this reason, document all matches.
  • Players found to be abusing or otherwise disconnecting often may be disqualified.
  • Players should prepare for tech tests with VAL admins to verify home setups in the finals.

Qualifiers

  • Participants will play on RedFish Lake, Idaho from the US West DLC. They will target the Dolly Varden Trout species for their submissions. As this is an epic fish, it can only be obtained in the expert setting.
  • Measurements will be computed in imperial units of measurement, rather than metric. Please adjust your settings accordingly.
  • In the event of ties for fish point scale, consideration for both weight and length will determine advancement and prizes.
  • Players will have between 2/26-3/02 to submit their best catch. No submissions will be accepted after 11:59PM PST (GMT-8).
  • All submissions must be sent as a sharable URL to the pic or video hosted on a file sharing site (Dropbox, Drive, or even Facebook pictures). The form will be editable so you can alter the link if you get a better catch. However, only one link per player will be accepted. All submissions will be given to VAL at this link

(Please note that if you are sharing a URL on the Google form, the picture or video being linked to MUST be able to be publicly viewed. If we can’t see it we won’t count it.)
  • ALL SUBMITTED PHOTOS OR VIDEOS MUST CONTAIN THE IN GAME WRISTWATCH WITH THE TIME AND DAY CLEARLY VISIBLE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS! ANY PHOTO WHERE WE CANNOT CLEARLY SEE THE DATE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED!

    For example:
  • VAL will review all photo and video submissions sent to them before determining player advancement. All stats will be taken off the submitted picture. VAL will be thoroughly examining the photos of those with the biggest catches, and reserves the right to disqualify any submission without notice should they feel a submitted photo has been doctored in any way.
  • If a player decides to submit a video, they will need to provide an appropriate time stamp for where in the footage the fish they are submitting is caught.
  • Top six participants will advance on to the championship.

Championship Semi-Finals

  • Groups will play on the Big Sur CA map, from the US-West DLC, and target White Sea Bass.
  • Qualifying players will need to have a Discord account and join the VAL server (linked above) as communication with organizers will largely take place there.
  • If a player decides to submit a video, they will need to provide an appropriate time stamp for where in the footage the fish they are submitting is caught.
  • Top six will be split into two groups of three.
  • Players will also have the ability to use the “sonar” mode fish finder (the one that comes with the “hard” difficulty) to ensure better odds for finding targeted species. However, it is not required, and players are welcome to fish on expert difficulty if they so choose.
  • Players will be allowed to “reset” their fish by changing difficulty levels back and forth,as often as they need to. As we’re targeting specific species, we don’t want you to be skunked.
  • Each group will have a VAL employee in their match to ensure fair play.
  • Group scheduling will be handled in private message groups on Discord between the VAL employee assigned to the match and those participating in the semi-finals.
  • Participants may be asked to stream their session to a URL through the streaming available within the Quest headset (assuming they are playing on Quest) for another VAL team member to watch and keep track of. Tech testing will be done prior to play to ensure that this is possible for those in the semi-finals.
  • Advancement is determined by the quantity of the catch for the target species.
  • The top three players between the two groups with the largest overall catch total will advance to the finals.
  • In the event of “tie-worthy” situations, VAL reserves the right to settle such disputes in such a manner as they deem appropriate.
  • Sharks are not included in scoring, but players are welcome to catch them if they choose. Shark catches will be considered for the additional $50 prize for largest shark.
  • Semi-finals will run for 45 minutes for each group. One group will follow the other after all players are in game and have shown stable connections.
  • Participants should ensure proper battery life for headsets ahead of time as VAL will not adjust timing for disconnections. In the event of a disconnect for any reason, the player is allowed to rejoin the private room. If unable to rejoin, only catches prior to disconnect will be considered.

Championship Finals

  • Players will play on the O’Ahu Hawaii map of the US-West DLC. Yellowfin tuna being the targeted fish for the finals.
  • Players are allowed to “reset” their fish by changing difficulty levels back and forth, but are encouraged to not overdo this as constant resets aren’t in the spirit of proper sportsmanship.
  • Participants may be asked to stream their session to a URL through the streaming available within the Quest headset (assuming they are playing on Quest) for another VAL team member to watch and keep track of. Tech testing will be done prior to play to ensure that this is possible for those in the semi-finals.
  • Finals will include a VAL employee to ensure fairness.
  • Finals will run for 90 minutes.
  • Semi-finals rules regarding disconnections will still apply.
  • Player rankings will follow the same rules as for the semi-finals. The player with the most tuna at the end of the play session will be declared the winner.
  • In the event of “tie-worthy” situations, VAL reserves the right to settle such disputes in such a manner as they deem appropriate.
  • Sharks will not be included in scoring, but players are welcome to catch them if they choose. Shark catches will be considered for the additional $50 prize for largest shark.
  • Prize delivery will be handled by VAL, pursuant to our terms and conditions.

Community Awards

  • The bonus awards will be available only as Gleam submissions. While participants can submit on all three categories, they are only eligible to win one of them. This is open to anyone, including those who have won their spot in the tournament.
  • The largest Shark is relatively straight-forward. It includes all species of shark and can be achieved on either map. In the event of a “tie-worthy” scenario, VAL reserves the right to determine winners or potential splitting of a prize as we deem fit.
  • Smallest Fish and largest Rare Fish will follow the same rules as those listed above. The only difference is that they exclude sharks in the consideration for either.
